Project Development
The Eagle County Regional Airport is
located adjacent to State Highway 6 between the towns of Eagle and
Gypsum, Colorado. Previous regional transportation planning
efforts have recommended a new interchange at I-70 to provide a direct
connection between I-70 and the Airport. Currently, the Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Colorado Department of
Transportation (CDOT) are completing an Environmental Assessment (EA)
to address the potential impacts of constructing the interchange and
connector roadway. The final environmental document should be
completed shortly (November/December 2004) and it is anticipated that the EA will result in a
'Finding of No Significant Impact' (FONSI) to the environment. The EA has
identified the "L" alignment as the preferred alternative.

Design Team
The Colorado Department
of Transportation (CDOT) selected HDR Engineering to design the Eagle
Interchange project. The project will include a new
interchange at I-70, a connector roadway including a
2100-foot bridge
over the Eagle River Valley, and an intersection at Cooley Mesa Road.
Environmental mitigation measures outlined in the EA will be
implemented as part of this project. The CDOT/HDR team is currently working on the conceptual design.
